First Thanksgiving Day Proclamation- Continental Congress-December 18, 1777
PURPOSE:
"That at one time and with one voice,
the good people may express
the grateful feelings of their hearts,
and consecrate themselves
To the service of their divine benefactor;
And that, together with their sincere acknowledgements and offerings,
they may join the penitent confession of their manifold sins,
whereby they had forfeited every favor;
And their humble and earnest supplications
that it may please God through the merits of Jesus Christ
mercifully to forgive and blot them out of remembrance;
That it may please Him graciously to afford His blessing on the governments of these states respectively, and prosper the public council of the whole."

AMEN to that!
It drives me nuts when people go around saying "Happy Turkey Day" and getting excited about football, but not really knowing what Thanksgiving is all about.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
I love Washington's proclamation so much, I read it every Thanksgiving at the dinner table. God's providence was obviously over the forming of this nation, and the church has allowed the wool to be pulled over everyone's eyes about that fact. Time for us to get busy edumacating everyone about the facts!
Happy Thanksgiving, brother. Hope all is well with you and yours!
